Blockage Survey
Management Needs: Managers are currently living through a time of stringency , upheaval and threat. This affects all aspects of organizational life and provokes reactions ranging through excitement , hope, uncertainty and despair. As we examine political, social, economic and psychological forces at work in developed countries and study the effect these forces are having on those in management position, we can make useful generalizations concerning the changing nature of the management job. These generalizations have enabled to predict the strengths and skills required of the competent manager in the present and in the future.
Through analysis eleven distinct factors have been identified that are likely to affect managerial behavior in the coming decades. Stress, pressure, and uncertainty are increasingly present in most forms of organizational life. Therefore, effective managers need to be capable of managing their time and themselves efficiently. Erosion of traditional values has led to much confusion about personal beliefs and values. Therefore, today’s managers need to be able to clarify their personal values. A wide range of choices is available. Therefore, managers need to identify both their work goals and their personal objectives. Organization systems cannot provide all the learning opportunities needed by today’s managers. Therefore, it is necessary for each manager to sustain continuing personal growth and development. Problems are becoming increasingly complex and numerous, while resources are often more stretched. Therefore, being able to solve problems quickly and effectively is becoming an even more crucial management skill. The pressures on markets, energy, industrial relations and profitability make new ideas and continuous innovation essential. Therefore, manager must be personally creative and be able to manage change effectively.
Traditional hierarchical relationships are under pressure. Therefore, effective management calls for using the skills of influencing others without resort to direct authority. Many traditional styles and methods of management are no longer sufficiently potent or acceptable to handle contemporary and future challenges. Therefore new and more relevant managerial styles need to be adopted and many more managers need to develop different attitudes and behaviours towards their subordinates. There are greater costs and difficulties associated with exploring people. Therefore each manager and supervisor needs to become more skillful in effectively utilizing human resources. An increasing rate of change requires that people learn new skills, develop new attitudes and avoid personal obsolescence. Therefore managers need skill in helping others to learn new techniques and practices quickly and efficiently. Complex problems increasingly require the combine efforts of several people to assist in their solution. Therefore , managers need to be able to form and develop teams that quickly become resourceful and capable.
